I think it's about the clustering of antibodies under certain circumstances. The well known hexamers - which led to the hexabody - is one example. Oligomers are only different number of units in the cluster. Dimer is 2. Trimer is 3 and hexamer is 6.

This mechanism - the forming of a cluster through the fc-part when the other end of the antibody (the fab-arms) binds to the antigen - is activating CDC reaction of the immune system. Thats how I understand it.
