Should we treat smoldering myeloma? A debatehttps://twitter.com/VincentRK/status/1187397174226837504 -
Apropos yesterday.

I remember some time ago, we had a debate about this subject. The cause was a minor conflict between haema deps at Danish hospitals on the background of some statistical numbers, that showed that Vejle Sygehus had a better MM-survival than the others. The reason for this was not that Vejle was any "better", but that they started treatment earlier - already in the (high-risk) smoldering phase - and thus got a better survival statistics. Maybe they should give Plesner a call for some advice.

E L: Could be: O. Landgren: The incidence and prevalence of smoldering multiple myeloma in the population is not well defined. The best available estimates to date come from a recent study by Kristinsson and colleagues who used the Swedish Myeloma Registry from 2008 to 2011 with a total of 2494 patients with any type of newly diagnosed myeloma showing that 360 (14.4%) had smoldering multiple myeloma. Among patients with smoldering multiple myeloma, 104 (28.8%) had high-risk smoldering mm
