There are plenty of reasons Celgene might develop cold feet. Competition is high. Even with price tags approaching $500,000 per patient, it’s unclear whether producers can make decent margins given the need to modify each patient’s cells individually. Tweaking the immune system is also tricky, and adverse effects may limit the therapies to desperate cases.
