Der er selvfølgelig ikke garanti for, at hr. Bhappu ikke har fortrudt bittert siden. Men der er da en vis signalværdi i at en insider har købt for 25 mio $:

Samtidigt et andet sted i galaksen, har Ryan & Maniskas, LLP lagt sag an mod Molycorp ved distriksdomstolen i Colorado. Sagen drejer sig om fejlagtige/manglende SEC filings og en (måske) kunstigt oppustet kurs i perioden 9/3-2011 til 10/11-2011. Det er formentlig de samme forhold, der i øjeblikket undersøges af SEC.

A partial shutdown of rare earths production in North and South China has led to a 20 percent rise in the materials' prices. The price of neodymium-praseodymium oxide, an important rare-earth mineral, is now between 340,000 yuan ($54,604) and 360,000 yuan a ton....Another mineral, dysprosium oxide, now costs 2.8 to 3 million yuan a ton, according to the latest price on Baiinfo, a domestic financial information provider."

"A concerted effort to build an entire industrial chain means that China, which produces more than 90 percent of world supplies of rare earths, is now consuming 65 percent of output versus 25 percent a decade ago.

'By 2014 or 2015, China will probably be in a net import situation for certain rare earths,' said Mark Smith, chief executive of Colorado-based miner Molycorp, which this year acquired China-based Neo Material Technologies to boost its processing know-how and its presence in China."

Det bliver interessant at se, hvordan RE-priserne udvikler sig de kommende måneder.

Der er dog en række andre faktorer man skal have med:

[b]Negative[/b]:

• De meddeler at projektet bliver $150 mio dyrere pga problemer med en underleverandør (som de iøvrigt sagsøger). Resterende udgifter til projektet i US er dermed på over $500mio. Skal de ud og finde flere penge i markedet/udvanding?
• Lynas fik i torsdags endelig godkendt deres fabrik i Malaysia og kan begynde produktionen af 11k ton RE/året. (JV med Siemens om prod. af RE-magneter hører vi sikkert mere om kommende tid)
• Man kan godt være lidt skeptisk om hvorvidt der er efterspørgsel til den enorme stigning i global produktion, og hvad det betyder for priserne.. MCP og Lynas vil producere henholdsvis 19k og 11k ton i deres fase 1, og fase 2 næste år vil bringe det op på 40k og 21k ton. (Sidste år var importen fra Kina på blot 22k ton..)

[b]Positive[/b]:

• Omkostningerne skulle falde væsentligt når deres Chlor-Alkali anlæg er klar.
• Deres JV med Daido Steel og Mitsubishi: Produktion af 500ton RE-magneter om året, med start i jan.
• 79% af fase 1 produktionen er allerede afsat til kunder/reserveret til brug i deres produkt XSORBX.

Molycorp har efterfølgende udsendt en pressemeddelelse:
